In today's electronic world (TV, Internet, email, hand held devices) people get very little time to focus on things. Any small improvement adds value to quality of life.
I am suggesting that most public websites ( corporate intranet or public news sites) should have reader count on all their news links. This will help the user or visitor to decide if he really wants to click that link or not. I may choose to read a link that most people have read. This concept is already implemented in Youtube right. It gives you the usage count on each video link.
